Our new Head of Primary, Mr Emmanuel Gauthier, was delighted to hold a “Meet the Head of Primary” meeting for all Primary parents today in the cafeteria.
Mr Gauthier joined ISM as Head of Primary in January 2023, and he is currently responsible for Year 4 to Year 6, before taking over the full responsibility for the Early Years and Primary School, as the new Head of an all through Primary School, Kindergarten to Year 6, upon the retirement of Mrs Ragi in August 2023.
Previously Head of Primary at the Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), an International Baccalaureate (IB) World Continuum School, Mr Gauthier was responsible for leading all aspects of the Primary School from Kindergarten to Year 6, including the implementation of a bilingual model for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). He has held senior leadership positions in schools for the past twelve years and his responsibilities have included curriculum design, particularly in the bilingual context, innovation, leadership, teaching and learning development, student assessment and data tracking, performance appraisal, student wellbeing and safeguarding leadership.
Mr Gauthier started his teaching career in a number of prestigious private schools in the UK, before moving internationally to take up a number of leadership positions, including Deputy Head at Brighton College, Abu Dhabi, before becoming Head of Primary School in his previous school in the UAE.
He is an internationally recognised expert on both the IB Primary Years Programme and on the latest innovative approaches to bilingual education, including recently presenting at the Outstanding Schools of the Middle East Conference 2022, leading on multilingualism, translanguaging and English as an Additional Language approaches to supporting student learning.
