IS Monaco International Education & Sustainability Leadership Summit (IESLS)
Wednesday, March 5, 2025 11:30 hrs
Friday, March 7, 2025 14:00 hrs
Hosted by the International School of Monaco
What?
Designed in partnership with Sustainability Education and in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, this three-day summit will bring together students, teachers and leaders from national and international systems of education, with policymakers, leaders in business and industry and climate experts. Together, we will confront the systems failures that have led us to the current climate emergency and embrace the imperative of education and leadership to shape a pathway to a better, more peaceful and more sustainable future.
Our Focus
The Principality of Monaco, with its deep connection to the ocean and its growing commitment to sustainability, is playing a critical role in championing environmental stewardship. The ocean is at the heart of Monaco’s mission for a more sustainable future. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water), call for the protection of marine ecosystems and underscore the need for urgent action to preserve and protect the ocean.
The education sector must ask itself: What role can and should it play in addressing the current polycrisis? Schools, especially in progressive regions such as Monaco, must decide whether they will mirror society’s current unsustainable practices or become agents of change. Education systems need to rapidly reconsider what students learn, how they learn, and where they learn, ensuring that they are instilling values of sustainability, environmental awareness, and social responsibility in a spirit of equity and equality. Schools should model the way through their culture, leadership, and infrastructure, setting new standards that align with the SDGs, particularly in the context of ocean conservation and regenerative leadership.
Monaco’s commitment to sustainability amidst a concentration of economic activity and academic expertise offers a compelling model for educational institutions globally to reflect upon, as we reimagine and reinvent ourselves as catalysts for a better and more sustainable future.

Outcomes
By attending the summit, you will develop the confidence and the capacity to lead your organisation in implementing innovative strategies to integrate sustainability into the “Where” the “What” and the “How” of your operations. You will be empowered to transform your institution into a proactive agent of change.
As a graduate of the IESLS Monaco, you will join an active and dynamic alumni network of sustainability thought leaders who can inspire change locally, regionally and globally. This unique community will support you in driving positive impact wherever you are and whatever you do.
Registration
We have reserved places for representatives from 23 schools across Europe. Each school is encouraged to send five participants, typically including the Principal, Bursar (or equivalent), a ‘champion teacher,’ and two students from Grade 9 or above. However, as we recognise that we will need to be flexible in accommodating as broad and diverse a demographic as possible, please be encouraged to explore a different shape to your delegation as your context dictates.
Good news! The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, December 6, 2024. All contacts will receive confirmation of a place and a link to the official summit registration form, followed by the invoice for payment.
