Following the tremendous success of the inaugural edition last year, ISM was proud to host the 2nd AFEC Tennis Championships in collaboration with the World Academy of Sport (WAoS), from October 9th to 12th, 2024.
This tournament brought together four days of intense competition, inspiring educational sessions, and an incredible display of sportsmanship. Set against the stunning backdrop of Monaco, this year’s tournament featured boys and girls in the U18 age group, competing in both singles and doubles matches. Qualification rounds and semi-finals took place at Tennis Padel Soleil, culminating in a thrilling grand finale held at the prestigious Monte-Carlo Country Club.
Spectators were treated to high-level tennis action, while participants had the chance to compete at world-class venues, showcasing their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport. The competition concluded with some spectacular results from ISM’s own players, who reached the finals in three categories:
- U13 Boys Final
1st place – Aleksandr (ISM Year 7)
Runner-up – Alexander (ISM Year 8) - Open Girls Final
1st place – Dasha (ISM Year 9)
Runner-up – Mia (ISM Year 7) - U18 Boys Final
1st place – Caio (St George’s British International School, Rome)
Runner-up – Santiago (St George’s British International School, Rome)
Olympian-led educational sessions for student-athletes
In addition to the on-court action, the event offered a unique educational component. Participating student-athletes attended special sessions led by Olympians, who shared valuable insights on the support systems needed for aspiring tennis players to progress toward professional careers. These workshops emphasised the importance of balance between academics and sports, a core value of the Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC) program.
Primary School Exhibition Tournament
Parallel to the main event, ISM also hosted an Exhibition Tournament for Primary School athletes, providing younger players with the opportunity to engage in a friendly competition while being inspired by the older students’ performances.
A special thanks to our sponsor!
ISM extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hill Robinson, the official sponsor of the 2024 AFEC Tennis Championships, for their generous support of this prestigious event.
A prestigious event for AFEC schools
The AFEC Tennis Championships is an exclusive event reserved for schools affiliated with the Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC) program, with the aim of promoting high-performance sports alongside academics. We were delighted to welcome our AFEC partners, along with the host community in and around Monaco, for this celebration of sport, education, and community.
We look forward to hosting many more events that nurture our student-athletes and inspire their journeys both on and off the court!
