Last week, Year 12 chemists and Year 13 physicists flew to Geneva to spend the day visiting CERN, one of the world’s largest centres for scientific research.
Students had the opportunity to go 100 metres below ground to examine part of the large Hadron collider, a 27-kilometre ring where particles are accelerated and smashed into each other to examine conditions of the early universe. It was fascinating to see so many scientists at work trying to answer the biggest questions facing physics today!
