Year 12 student works with children in India as NGO volunteer

Last week, Year 12 student Isaac had the unique opportunity to volunteer his time in the city of Chandigarh, India to work with underprivileged children through the Aashray Foundation, the country’s largest youth-run NGO.

As part of his CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) component of the IB (International Baccalaureate) diploma, this week of volunteer work immersed Isaac in experiences that taught him the values of compassion, empathy, hard work, endurance, leadership and organisation. Serving as a true ambassador of ISM, he echoed ISM’s learning principles in action.

His work with the Aashray Foundation was deeply rewarding, connecting with a number of children who each had a unique story to share. Isaac had the pleasure to work with them, gain insights into their daily struggles and witness how the Aashray Foundation supports them in overcoming obstacles to access education and extracurricular activities.

Isaac also had the honour of being interviewed by local journalists, resulting in three articles published in Pixstory (English), Amar Ujala (Hindi), and The Indian Express (English).
