On October 18, our Year 13 chemists and physicists flew to Geneva for an incredible day at CERN, one of the world’s largest centres for scientific research.

They dove deep into CERN’s groundbreaking research and technological achievements, with one highlight being their hands-on experiment in the Cloud Chamber Laboratory. Using dried ice and isopropanol, they created a cloud and watched invisible cosmic rays leave visible trails—a mesmerizing glimpse into the hidden world of subatomic particles. They also explored the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), learning how protons are accelerated and collided to study the fundamental building blocks of our universe. It was a day to remember, surrounded by scientists unlocking the universe’s greatest mysteries!
